We've always thought those uber tight compression pieces were only for triathletes and people at risk of DVT, but the Mercury compression range from Cantebury has got us thinking otherwise.
Launched in August this unisex range caters for a wide spectrum of sized, from small up to 3XL, meaning whatever your shape you can find a snug option for you. The tighter the better with compression gear - the clue's in the name - and these items promise a helping hand for cyclists in training, competing and recovery.
We can all relate to that burn in the legs after a particularly tough hill so if you want to splash some cash to try to help your body alleviate that tiredness these are worth a look - even if you do end up looking like an aspiring superhero.
BEST FOR LACTIC ACID FLUSHING
Quite uniquely, the compression element in this top is focused on the lower arms rather than the more worked upper arms. Canterbury claim this helps improve venous return (blood flow back to the heart) which in turn removes lactic acid - and it works. Fatigue after exercise is cut to a minimum after wearing this top and my muscles seemed brilliantly supported during workouts. It also regulates body temperature well, keeping you warm when you start out and helping you cool down once you've hit your straps. In terms of fit, this is among the tightest on this rundown but this merely adds to a feeling of quality rather than discomfort. I did find things got a little too tight under my armpits which was a bit annoying but all in all, this is a quality baselayer option.
