Welcome to the Cyclestore Geoff Thomas Cycle Sportive - 21st August 2011

We are proud to present the 2nd Cyclestore.co.uk Geoff Thomas Cycle Sportive.

The ride, which takes in some stunning Cheshire countryside and challenging Peak District climbs, takes place on August the 21st 2011.

Organised in aid of the Geoff Thomas Foundation and Alzheimer’s Society East Cheshire Branch, the Sportive starts at the home of Cyclestore, at the High School, Congleton in Cheshire. Two routes are available, thus catering for all abilities:-

  • A 26 mile flat cruise along the green and pleasant lanes of Cheshire aimed at the leisure cyclist or those completely new to sportives.
  • A challenging 86 mile route with over 4000ft of climbing. The long route takes in several well known climbs such as Thorncliffe, Telegraph Hill and descents such as Gun Hill (used in the 2009 Tour of Britain) and Wincle. (clockwise direction)

Set-off  will start at 8am until 10am for the 86 mile route with the 26 mile route being extended until 11am.

On completion, enjoy some drinks and tea with us and chat with other riders to see how you got on.

The ride is a non-profit event, that means all the money after the setup fee is given away to charity - Last year over 80% went to charity, for the full breakdown of costs click here.

Maps of the routes will be provided online so study them hard, there will be direction sign posts placed along the route and the Sportive will be staffed with as many marshals that we can get our hands on.

Feed stations will be available to help keep you fed and watered, with the help of Accelerade and their 4:1 ratio Carb-Protein supplements.

More details to follow so keep checking up on the ride, the best place to keep informed is the Cyclestore Twitter page.

Hope you come ride with us.
